WRITING & EDITING
I have done many types of writing, including books, hundreds of magazine articles, jokes and comedy routines (for myself and other comedians, and radio personalities), TV and movie scripts, public relations material, advertising copy, songs, and even greeting cards (you may have read my work ... in the drugstore).
My magazine and book writing focuses on pop culture, and especially pop music history, and on food. I am the former editor of three regional publications -- Cleveland Magazine, Northern Ohio Live and CITY (the magazine section of a weekly newspaper, City Reports, for a relatively short time, until the paper ceased publication). And I've written articles for publications including the Los Angeles Times, Delta Sky, Performing Songwriter, Relix, Country Song Roundup, US Airways the Cleveland Plain Dealer, and others.
I have also written for Looney Tunes/Rhino Records, NASA, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame & Museum, AOL Digital Cities, and many arts and social service organizations.
My regular column for the local monthly newspaper Heights Observer recently took second place in the Best Column category in the Press Club of Cleveland's All Ohio Excellence in Journalism competition (competing against columnists in papers of all sizes in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Akron, Dayton, Toledo, and every other Ohio city).
I am currently working on several books (writing, not reading), including a novel, a music-history/cookbook, a pop-music history book, and a graphic memoir.
